Popular Diets to Avoid

The problem with looking for the right diet is that there are so many out there. Many provide pit falls that we don’t realize. That isn’t just for random nutrition plans you found in the depths of the internet. There are many diet plans that are very popular. How can terrible nutrition protocols end up in the lime light? One word: marketing.

Marketing has been the backbone of virtually everything we see for sale. Some marketing schemes are big and bold. Others are simply based upon an individual’s sales pitch. Needless to say, today is one of the most dangerous eras for falling for some type of pseudo-science nutrition plan.

…run if you have to

To help you get the scoop on what plans are terrible, we have provided this review. Here, we will be discussing a few popular diets that have stubbornly stuck around or have had a lot of time making rounds in the media.

Apple Cider Vinegar Diet

Oh, boy. The old apple cider vinegar diet. This one is a doozy. It is completely nuts and so many people fell for it. The placebo-effect is a heck of thing. And, it is scientifically proven.

This diet consists of mixing a glass of apple cider vinegar, honey and cayenne pepper. Then, you are supposed to drink this 3 times a day. Take one glass before each meal.

So, what is wrong with this diet? If you have gastroesophageal reflux disease or irritable bowel syndrome, this diet can be a nightmare. All of the spice cells and acid in this drink can make these digestive issues many times worse. Plus, it is significantly irritating to your stomach lining. Moreover, it can also cause you terrible gas pains.

HCG Diet

This is one of the worst diets out there. Please, do not try this at home. If you have any sympathy for your internal organs, your body in general and your mental well-being, avoid the HCG diet like the plague.

The HCG diet requires an $80 vial of human chorionic gonadotropin supplement and an insane calorie restriction of 500 calories a day. That is only 250 calories per two meals a day. Each of these meals contain about 3.5 ounces of lean mean and a single serving of specific fruits and vegetables, plus one piece of toast.

You do not need to be a nutritionist to spot the nutrient deficiency you are putting your body through. Aside from this plan being unsustainable, you will, without a doubt, gain all the weight back.

Low-Fat Diet

People are crazy about avoiding fat. Our body is not a car that burns fuel the same exact way despite how much or how little you put inside. The human body is designed for survival. Therefore, it often adjusts its metabolism to compensate for nutrient deficiencies. Therefore, you could be inducing your body to go into panic mode and cling to fat more.

Alkaline Diet

Here we go again. Another bit of pseudo-science. This diet tells you to avoid acid because fat and cancer cannot thrive in an alkaline environment. Wake up, people! Your body self-regulates. That means it adjusts to maintain its pH balance. Stop falling for all these fly-by-night diet trends and start doing your research.
